Natural landscapes in Albania: Syri i Kaltër - The blue eye
Driving from Saranda, you can't miss the Blue Eye, a must-see destination if you are in southern Albania. The beautiful crystal-clear spring is only about a half-hour drive from Saranda. The Blue eye is the initial part of a natural spring of the Bistricë River, an approximately 25 km long river that flows into the Ionian Sea south of Saranda.
The car route to reach it from Saranda is very simple and well-marked, upon arrival at your destination you must leave your car in the parking lot and continue on foot along a path of about 2 km. Once you arrive at your destination, an unmissable spectacle of nature will present itself before your eyes, a fantastic spring of beautifully coloured water, where blue and all its shades predominate. "The blue eye”, so called because the center of the spring, with its dark blue color, resembles a pupil, while the lighter and bluer surroundings are reminiscent of an iris.
